The Rowland Farm is located in the scenic Endless Mountains region of
Northeast Pennsylvania.
The property consists of 130 acres. It includes the Ponda-Rowland B&B Inn, a large barn, waterside pavilion, several other buildings, and a 30-acre private wildlife sanctuary.
The B&B Inn, circa 1850, is completely furnished in museum-quality American colonial country antiques. There are interesting and antique collections throughout the home and property: pottery, kitchen utensils, jars, tools, farm equipment, etc.
The location of rooms and common areas ensures quiet, private time for all
guests, including breakfast time. Family rooms are at the opposite end of our large home from the single/couples rooms. There are five cozy common areas. Individuals and couples may be served breakfast in areas or times separate from the families.
The entire home is available to guests. Favorite areas are the views of the wildlife sanctuary from the enclosed front porch, and sitting by the large stone fireplace in the Great Room.
Books and a large selection of magazines are available for guest use.
A hearty farm breakfast is served to all guests, by candlelight, in the dining room, or on the porch or the patio. Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m.
Outdoor activities on the farm include visiting the farm animals, walking the sanctuary, canoeing, cross-country skiing, ice skating, tobogganing and hay rides by prior arrangement.
The farm animals include horses, donkeys, chickens, very friendly dogs, goats, turkeys, sheep, a pot belly pig, cats, and a rabbit. These animals are kept outside, except our greyhound, Matthew, who sleeps on the enclosed patio.
Guests are welcome to visit, play with, and help feed and care for the animals (with supervision).
The wildlife sanctuary is located on 30 acres of the farm in full view of the inn, especially the enclosed front porch and including most of the guest rooms. Guests can study the sanctuary from the inn using binoculars by day and powerful lights by night (binoculars and lights furnished by the inn). The sanctuary includes six ponds. One of these ponds is used for canoeing, boating, fishing, and ice skating. There is also a dock and pavilion on this pond. The sanctuary also includes several trails for walking and viewing the fauna and wildlife. The wildlife includes many varieties of fish, birds, ducks, swans, geese, herons, hawks, rabbits, fox, deer, bear, coyote, wild turkeys, etc.
Nearby the Rowland Farm are excellent restaurants, Ricketts Glen State Park, World's End State Park, State Game Land 57, trout streams, a family trout fishing park, horseback riding, golf, antique shops, steam railroad rides, coal mine tours, air tours of the mountains, country fairs, Montage downhill ski area, Pocono Downs, French Azilum, Nicholson Bridge, the beautiful Susquehanna River, and many other attractions.
